#BeActive
A movement across Europe
Every year, the European Week of Sport brings people across Europe together through movement and shows how good it feels to be active together. Under the motto #BeActive, it becomes a shared movement for more activity, connection and enjoyment.
Whether you’re already active or just getting started: everyone’s welcome. Every movement counts.
The European Week of Sport is shaped by the many organisations and people who bring it to life every year.
Across Germany, activities are created that invite people to join in: sport clubs open up their training sessions, schools organise activity days, companies encourage a more active workday, fitness studios offer free sessions, and municipalities bring movement into public spaces.
This creates opportunities everywhere to try something new, move together and enjoy being active in many different ways.
What starts with one small step can become a movement.
#BeActive stands for one simple idea: movement feels good – and it’s even better together.
Movement looks different everywhere. #BeActive connects it.
Every year from 23 to 30 September, #BeActive encourages people across Europe to move more and live more actively.
Activities are created by local organisers and reflect the many different ways people move: from traditional sports to new trends, from individual activities to team sports, indoors, outdoors or simply as part of everyday life. Together, these activities create a shared European movement for more physical activity.
Whether organised by a sports club, school, fitness studio, company or municipality – #BeActive makes movement visible and invites people to join in.

A movement across Europe
Since 2015, the European Week of Sport has brought people across Europe together through one shared message: #BeActive.
Launched by the European Commission, the campaign now takes place in around 40 countries and encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to become more active – in sport, in everyday life, and in their communities.
Many people know that movement is good for them, yet studies such as the Eurobarometer continue to show how important physical activity is for health, wellbeing and social connection.
#BeActive shows how important movement is and creates opportunities for people across Europe to become active themselves – together as part of a shared movement.
#BeActive across Germany
In Germany, the European Week of Sport becomes especially visible where people are reached most directly: locally.
Across Germany, activities invite people to get moving together – from open training sessions and taster activities to action days and larger events in public spaces. Existing activities become accessible to new participants, while new opportunities are created to experience movement together.
This is how #BeActive shows the many different ways movement can bring people together, inspire participation and become part of everyday life.
In Germany, the European Week of Sport has been coordinated by the German Gymnastic Federation (DTB) since 2016 and is supported by the Federal Chancellery.
The #BeActive Night
A shared moment across Europe
On the Saturday of the European Week of Sport, #BeActive Nights take place all across Europe at the same time. Clubs, organisations and initiatives invite people to join in, get active together and experience the energy of a movement shared across borders.
Whether in small local communities or large cities, people across Europe move together under one common motto: #BeActive.
European School Sport Day
What if every school dedicated a day to movement?
As part of the European Week of Sport, the European School Sport Day (ESSD) takes place every year on the last Friday in September. Schools across Europe come together to highlight the importance of movement and physical activity in everyday school life – with joy, variety and without pressure to perform.
Sports tournaments, activity stations, movement breaks, games and many other activities create opportunities for children and young people to experience movement together.
In Germany, the European School Sport Day is coordinated by the German Association of Physical Education Teachers.
#BeActive FrankfurtRheinMain
#BeActive across Europe – brought to life in Frankfurt
The FrankfurtRhineMain region shows how the European Week of Sport can come to life locally: every year, clubs, organisations and initiatives across the region create opportunities for people to get active together and experience #BeActive in their everyday lives.
Coordinated by Sportkreis Frankfurt, a strong local network helps bring movement into public spaces, neighbourhoods and communities – making #BeActive visible and accessible to people where they live.
